How to solve the problem of inaccurate potassium chloride measurement in NPK production?
Inaccurate potassium chloride measurement is a common problem that has long plagued the NPK compound fertilizer production industry. Since the measurement accuracy of potassium chloride directly affects whether the K₂O content in the product meets the standard, if this problem is not effectively solved, it can lead to fluctuations in the nutrient content of the finished product and unstable batch quality, or even product defects or even the scrapping of the entire batch.

I. Main Reasons for Inaccurate Potassium Chloride Measurement
1. Material Characteristics Leading to Unstable Feeding: Potassium chloride has large differences in moisture content and uneven particle size, making it prone to clogging during feeding. Especially during the rainy season or when the raw material moisture content is high, potassium chloride easily absorbs moisture and clumps, further exacerbating the feeding difficulties.
2. Improper Selection or Insufficient Accuracy of Measuring Equipment: Currently, the industry commonly uses belt scales, screw weighing scales, and other equipment for potassium chloride measurement. However, due to differences among compound fertilizer equipment manufacturers, the error range of automatic weighing scales varies considerably. Some companies' measuring instruments fail to meet accuracy requirements or fail to undergo periodic calibration, leading to measurement deviations.
3. Corrosion and dust affect equipment accuracy: During NPK production, hydrogen chloride gas combines with moisture in the air to form hydrochloric acid, while also generating a large amount of raw material dust. This dust and hydrochloric acid corrode the rotating parts of the measuring instruments, increasing the failure rate and severely affecting measurement accuracy.
4. Poor material feeding leads to uncontrolled measurement: When potassium chloride feeding is obstructed, the amount of material entering the screw feeder may be less than the required amount, or even result in idling. Even if operators notice insufficient feeding, it is difficult to determine the specific deviation value. In actual use, screw weighing scales frequently experience blockages due to material issues, resulting in large fluctuations in flow rate.

II. Systematic Solutions
1. Select high-precision, corrosion-resistant measuring equipment: Prioritize automatic batching systems with a measurement accuracy within the range of ±0.25%–±0.5%. Given the corrosive nature of potassium chloride, a dedicated feeding structure with anti-corrosion treatment should be selected. 1. For solid powder metering, consider using a high-precision static weighing scale to replace traditional dynamic metering methods.
2. Optimize feeding and anti-clogging design: The bottom of the hopper adopts a double-cone design + electromagnetic vibrator to effectively disrupt the bridging conditions of potassium chloride particles. The screw feeder uses a Teflon anti-stick coating to reduce material adhesion and clumping. A variable frequency speed-regulating motor drives the screw feeder, and a PID control algorithm adjusts the feeding parameters in real time, controlling the dynamic metering error within ±0.3%.
3. Strictly control raw material moisture: Excessive moisture in potassium chloride can cause clumping, making it difficult to break up and mix evenly, directly affecting the accuracy of batching. The moisture content of incoming potassium chloride should be strictly tested; if it exceeds the standard, drying pretreatment is required.
4. Establish a regular maintenance and calibration system: Regularly clean dust and corrosion from the metering equipment, and periodically calibrate the weighing scale. Simultaneously, verify the metering accuracy by rapidly detecting the K₂O content of the finished product, forming a closed-loop control system.
In summary, solving the problem of inaccurate potassium chloride measurement requires a systematic approach from four dimensions: equipment selection, anti-clogging design, raw material control, and daily maintenance. Only in this way can the stability and accuracy of NPK product nutrients be fundamentally guaranteed.
