Equipment Introduction

BB fertilizer mixers (also known as blended fertilizer mixers or BB fertilizer blenders) are specialized equipment for the physical blending of single-element granular fertilizers such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. BB fertilizer (Bulk Blending Fertilizer) is a type of solid bulk blended compound fertilizer, specifically formulated based on the available nutrient content of the soil and the nutrient requirements of crops. The BB fertilizer mixer is the core processing equipment for achieving this precise formulation.

The core advantages of the BB fertilizer mixer are: large mixing capacity, easy formulation, and strong targeting. It can overcome the segregation phenomenon caused by differences in material specific gravity and particle size during the downward flow of the mixture, effectively improving the accuracy of batching. The equipment has a simple structure, is easy to operate, and is easy to maintain, greatly reducing equipment investment and saving manpower, financial resources, and energy consumption.

BB fertilizer mixers are generally divided into three mixing forms: vertical spiral, horizontal double-ribbon, and drum type. Among them, the drum type is favored by large-scale BB fertilizer plants due to its gentle mixing and lowest particle breakage rate. Unlike ordinary organic fertilizer mixers, BB fertilizer mixers pay more attention to protecting the physical form of the particles, and mostly use a gentle tumbling mixing principle to avoid the high-speed rotating blades damaging the particles.

Equipment Structure and Composition

The BB fertilizer mixer is typically divided into three main parts, along with a complete auxiliary system and electrical control system:

Component Parts Detailed Description
Frame Section Fabricated from high‑quality carbon steel plates and channel steel with strict process treatment. It bears the whole working body and ensures stable equipment operation.
Transmission Connection Section Composed of energy‑saving motor (2.2‑18 kW), belt pulley, V‑belt and hard‑tooth‑surface reducer. The reducer gears mesh with machine body gears to drive cylinder rotation, delivering stable operation and low noise.
Cylinder Working Section Cylinder is made of high‑quality carbon steel or industrial‑grade stainless steel. Special spiral mixing blades are installed inside. Mixing and discharging are realized by forward‑reverse rotation.
Feeding System Lifting hopper or belt conveyor transports raw materials from storage bin to the top feeding port of mixer. Designed with no material retention to avoid blockage.
Discharging System Pneumatic valve at bottom controls discharging with adjustable discharge speed. Some models match with screw conveyor to realize automatic packaging.
Electric Control System PLC‑centered control with touch‑screen interface. Supports manual / automatic / composite modes. Mixing time, discharging time and proportion parameters can be set. Equipped with fault alarm and emergency‑stop functions.

A complete BB fertilizer production line also includes: material storage silos, automatic batching machines, weighing scales, high-angle belt elevators, quantitative packaging machines, automatic bag sewing machines, finished product conveyor belts, and a computer control system.

Working Principle of the Equipment

The BB fertilizer mixer operates in both forward and reverse directions, achieving efficient mixing through a special internal spiral mechanism and unique three-dimensional structure:

1. Work Process:

1) Feeding: Raw materials are fed into the top feed inlet of the mixer via a lifting system.

2) Mixing (Forward Rotation): The motor drives the cylinder to rotate clockwise. The internal spiral blades continuously lift, tumble, and drop the material, forming a composite motion of axial and radial directions. Different particles collide and interweave fully in three-dimensional space, achieving uniform mixing.

3) Anti-caking: During the mixing process, the anti-caking device operates synchronously to break up material agglomerations.

4) Discharging (Reverse Rotation): After mixing, the cylinder rotates counterclockwise. The spiral blades push the material to the bottom discharge port, the pneumatic valve opens, and the finished product is discharged at a uniform speed under the push of the spiral belt.

5) Conveying: The mixed BB fertilizer enters the subsequent screening and packaging processes.

2. Core Mechanism: Through the triple action of convection, shearing, and diffusion, raw materials with different specific gravities and particle sizes are rapidly penetrated and evenly distributed, effectively overcoming segregation.

Raw Material Requirements for the Equipment

BB fertilizer mixer has specific technical requirements for raw materials, which is crucial to ensuring mixing quality and preventing segregation:

Raw Material Requirements Technical Indicators
Particle Size Uniformity The upper and lower limits of raw‑material particle size shall be consistent with similar particle distribution. Large particle‑size difference is the main cause of material segregation.
Moisture Content Low moisture requirement, generally ≤2%. High moisture will cause caking and wall‑sticking.
Particle Strength High particle compressive strength, resistant to breakage during storage and transportation.
Flowability Raw materials shall have good flowability for convenient metering and conveying.
Anti‑caking Property No caking during storage to avoid negative impact on feeding and mixing performance.

Common raw materials: urea, monoammonium phosphate (MAP), diammonium phosphate (DAP), potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, and micronutrient fertilizers, etc.

Applications of the Equipment

BB fertilizer mixers have a wide range of applications, mainly including the following fields:

1. BB fertilizer/blended fertilizer production: The core application scenario is the production of binary or ternary compound fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

2. Organic fertilizer mixing: It can be used for mixing raw materials for organic fertilizers and bio-organic fertilizers.

3. Chemical industry: Uniform mixing of chemical raw materials and feed additives.

4. Metallurgy and building materials: Mixing and blending of ore powder and building material raw materials.

5. Others: Material handling under dust collectors in thermal power plants, etc.

This equipment is suitable for both large-scale continuous production in fertilizer manufacturing plants and small- to medium-sized batch fertilizer blending needs of fertilizer distributors.

Application Position in the Complete BB Fertilizer Production Line

Fully Automated Standard Process Flow: Raw Material Storage Silo → Automatic Batching Scale (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium are Measuring Separately) → Bucket Elevator → BB Fertilizer Dedicated Mixer → Finished Product Temporary Storage Silo → Automatic Quantitative Packaging Machine → Finished Product Warehousing Core Function: The only core mixing process after batching, ensuring uniform nutrient ratios, eliminating raw material stratification, and guaranteeing uniform nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace element content in each bag of fertilizer; it is a key piece of equipment determining the quality inspection pass rate of the finished fertilizer. Multiple drum mixers can be arranged in parallel to achieve simultaneous switching between multiple formulas, reducing cross-contamination during material changes.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance Methods

(I) Preparation Before Feeding

1. Equipment Inspection: Check the mixer's fixation, ensuring the anchor bolts are secure; check the mixing blades for deformation, wear, or looseness; check the transmission system for sufficient lubrication and no abnormal noise; check the inlet and outlet gates for flexible operation and good sealing.

2. Material Pretreatment: Screen all raw materials to remove impurities such as stones, mud, and metal scraps; ensure all raw materials have consistent particle size. If materials are clumped, they must be crushed and broken up beforehand, with clumped particles not exceeding 5mm in diameter.

3. Site Preparation: Check the ventilation and dust control facilities at the work site and turn on dust control equipment; operators must wear safety helmets, dust masks, gloves, and non-slip shoes.

(II) Feeding Operation

The feeding sequence should follow the principle of "lighter materials first, then heavier materials; finer materials first, then coarser materials; dry materials first, then wet materials." The first step involves adding fine-grained, lightweight raw materials (such as powdered organic fertilizer and fine monoammonium phosphate powder);

The second step involves adding medium-grained, medium-density raw materials (such as urea granules and potassium sulfate granules);

The third step involves adding coarse-grained, heavy raw materials.

(III) Mixing and Discharging

The mixing time is usually controlled at 5-10 minutes. After mixing, the drum can be reversed to discharge the material. Feeding should be stopped before stopping the machine; stopping the machine while material is still present is strictly prohibited.

(IV) Maintenance

1. Inspection and maintenance of the machine must be performed after the machine is stopped.

2. Regularly check the working condition of each moving part and repair any problems immediately.

3. After mixing, the machine can be run unloaded for 3-5 minutes to use airflow to dry any residual moisture and material debris inside the equipment.

4. When using the machine in winter, the focus should be on "moisture prevention, anti-caking, and equipment protection".
